Can I write to my child?
Sure! The address is shown on the cover page of this brochure and also on the Registration form.
Be sure to use the Post Office Box address, not the road address, and post your mail well ahead of
time, so that it arrives during your child’s camp! Please do not send food or candy. Delicious,
well-balanced meals and snacks will be provided for your camper. Food in the cabents creates
problems with insects and small animals, especially raccoons.
Is financial assistance available?
Many churches offer youth scholarships, often paying half or all of a camp fee. Please talk to
your pastor or educator. No camper will be turned away due to inability to pay a camp fee.
If you’ve spoken with your church officials and still need assistance, please contact Debi at
Kirkmont Center to obtain an application form for Kirkmont’s Campership Fund:
Kirkmont@bright.net or 1-800-572-1747 or 937/593-2141.
Kirkmont’s Campership Fund is intended to supplement other sources of funding and may be
used for any amount up to and including 50% of the total camp fee. The Campership Fund is
based solely on donations made by individuals or families.
Can my child call home? Can I call my Child? Can I visit my child
during his/her camp?
We discourage calls and visits from family because they can promote homesickness, and also
disrupt group equality and camaraderie by singling out a particular camper. If a camper gets
homesick, the summer staff is trained to help him/her deal with this natural emotion. If a child is
homesick, not participating with the group, disrupting camp, or causing other problems, the
weekly camp director will call the parent(s) to discuss options.
How will my child be supervised?
A staff person/counselor will be with each cabent group at all times. All paid staff/
counselors are trained and take part in a week-plus course prior to the start of camp.
Counselors study Christian leadership, camp policies, curriculum, first aid, basic outdoor
living skills, safety, and program skills such as canoeing and tending campfires.
What about health and safety?
We have a registered nurse on staff for each week of the summer. Parental health and
accident insurance will be the primary coverage for campers. Kirkmont provides
secondary insurance. Please include the necessary medical information and a copy of
the front and back of your medical insurance card along with your registration form.
Does my child need spending money?
Yes, if he/she wants to buy items like camp souvenirs, stamps, or disposable cameras
during the week at the Camp Store. All snacks and treats are provided.
What about Bible study?
Daily Bible study is based on a specially written curriculum. We also have morning
devotions and a camper-led worship each evening. The curriculum is designed to
accommodate all denominations.
