Summer Adult Volunteer Description

PURPOSE
To provide a Christian atmosphere of caring and nurture to campers under the guidance of the Camp Director.

ACCOUNTABILITY
Counselors are directly responsible to the Camp Director and Summer Program Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum age of 18 years,
  • Person of Christian faith, supportive of the camp program and the ministries of the Reformed faith.
  • Have a sense of responsibility, and a love and understanding of children.
  • Possess he ability to relate to children and work cooperatively with other staff members.
  • Complete application and reference screening.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership and guidance to a group of campers during the weekly programs.
  • Live as a camp leader in a cabent, responsible for the welfare of your group, orderliness of your cabent, and supervision of daily cleanup.
  • Provide adequate supervision of campers.
  • Assist with the camp program (family group, small group, recreation, campfires, evening programs, etc.)
  • Attend staff training events before and during camp session.
  • Substitute for any position that the Camp Director deems necessary.
  • Be familiar with Kirkmont policy and procedure.
  • Ensure that all campers are familiar with health and safety procedures and enforce these health and safety procedures.
  • Deal effectively with problems when they arise according to Kirkmont Center policy, reporting incidents as needed.
