Training Requirements
Participating in a week of summer staff training that will include both physical & spiritual preparation for the mission of Kirkmont's Summer Programming. Included in this training will be the physical set-up of Kirkmont's facilities.
Work Requirements
It is expected that the Summer Staff will be on site from Sunday at 11:00 a.m. to Saturday at 11:00 a.m. each week of summer program unless a camp concludes earlier and site clean-up is completed earlier. Free time will be available every week and will be considered time off. The average 8-10 hour workday may include:
welcoming campers, kitchen assistance (food preparation and/or dish washing), maintenance (cleaning restrooms, site clean-up, minor repairs), life guarding (if certified), pool cleaning, overseeing program activities (e.g. archery, challenge course, field sports), operating the camp store, dining room “energizers”, music at campfires. Some weeks may require some Summer Staff to serve as counselors for 5-7 campers and include sleeping in a cabent (canvass sides with solid roof and floor) and sharing leadership responsibilities with another adult (of the opposite gender). In this case the workday is generally wake-up to lights-out with some rest breaks during the day.
A schedule will be created at the beginning of each week based upon the camp requirements, and the Summer Staff member’s certification, skills and interests.
Accountability
Summer Staff will be accountable to the Church Camp & Retreat Director. It is expected that each person on staff at Kirkmont Center will care for their own spiritual and physical needs (including sufficient rest at night) and will behave as members of a community of God’s people, always seeking to place the needs of the campers first.
Remuneration/Room & Board
Summer Staff will receive a weekly salary that is adjusted for multiple years of service. Summer Staff will receive room and meals at no charge for the days on site. Summer Staff members will be housed in dormitory rooms on the lower level of the main lodge with bathrooms down the hall and a lounge that is reserved for Summer Staff. The lodge also contains the dining area on the upper floor. Other adults are housed on the lower level and occasionally campers, who are in the infirmary. Summer Staff members may want to bring a reading light and small fan. Bring your own linens; a washer and dryer are available for summer staff use. There is a community refrigerator in the Summer Staff lounge.
The 2010 dates will be June 7th through August 1st – 14th depending upon final schedule.
